可印刷电子材料设置用于平板显示器制造 Printable Electronic Material Sets for Flat-Panel Display Manufacturing


Abstract
Direct printing processes such as inkjet or gravure represent aparadigm shift in flat panel display manufacturing. The reducedprocess complexity and associated reduction in materialsconsumption can significantly reduce the cost of large format flatpanel TV's to a level where broad market penetration can berealized. Cabot Corporation is developing complementary sets ofprintable materials with electrical performance properties,adhesion, printing performance, and process compatibility thatwill enable low cost direct deposition processes such as inkjet.

Objective and Background
While large-area flat-panel displays are produced today byconventional photolithographic and screen-printing technologies,direct deposition techniques such as flexographic printing orinkjet printing are being considered to reduce cost. Thesedeposition processes have the opportunity to drastically reduce thecost of large televisions like PDPs and AMLCDs by significantlyreducing capital cost, fab floor space, and materials usage. Whileinkjet printing for displays has been envisioned, and research anddevelopment breakthroughs have been reported in this generalarea,1,2what has barred the progress of inkjet as a displaymanufacturing process to date has been a lack of suitablematerials, i.e. materials with the proper electrical, optical, andmechanical performance and high print reliability. Materialscompatibility with substrates, other materials and processes hasalso large been neglected. Cabot Corporation, PrintableElectronics and Displays (Cabot PEDs), a business of CabotCorporation, a $1.9B particulates and specialty chemicalcompany, has developed digitally printable materials sets(including: Silver, Nickel, Black Matrix, Resistors, Inductors,Dielectrics, and Transparent Conductors) that are compatible witheach other, the advanced deposition tools, and the PDP andAMLCD manufacturing processes. These novel materials aredesigned to adhere to display glass, have competitive performanceparameters, high print reliability and are designed to becompatible with other in-line processes and materials sets. CabotPEDs has technical core competencies including fine particlemanufacture, surface modification and dispersion, inkformulation, and printing and processing know-how. All of thesecompetencies are leveraged to overcome the obstacles stoppingthe commercialization of inkjetting as a major displaymanufacturing process.
